Fall is finally here!
For us here in California, we're celebrating the arrival of cooler weather, autumn colors and the festivities of this cozy season. Whether it's a dog-friendly tailgate or pumpkin patch, we've got you covered with theses 5 essential tips for the perfect fall picnic with your pup.
1. Updated ID Tags
We know you're a good and responsible human, but it's a great reminder to be sure your dog never leaves home without a collar and updated ID tag, just in case.
Info to include on the dog tag might be:
- Pet name
- Your contact info (at least a phone number)
- "I'm microchipped" (if applicable)
2. Limit Bug Exposure
Depending on your area, fall may be a buggy time of year. It's a good idea to know what pests are most common in your region. Whether you're dealing with mosquitoes, fleas and/or ticks the best treatment for heartworm and other bug-related diseases is prevention. Be sure to avoid areas with standing water (ponds and marshes) and areas with a large population of stray or wild animals (like deer). Discuss preventative medications with your vet and only use dog-safe insect repellents on your pup.
Another great idea for keeping your picnic pest-free is the Bug Shield Blanket which is made of 100% recycled materials, is completely odorless, hypoallergenic, skin-safe and deadly to pesky mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, flies, ants, chiggers, and no-see-ums (we couldn't believe it either)!
And yes, it comes in plaid.
3. Start with a Walk
Plan to enjoy a nice stroll with your companion before settling down to take in the turning leaves. Allow your pup some time to adjust to the sights and smells of the changing season and passers-by. There will undoubtedly be a few pit stops (another tree!) to check out before you find the perfect spot to lay down your blanket, kick off your boots, sprawl out and unwind. For the walk you'll definitely need:
4. The Basics
Be sure to Remember your:
- leash
- waste bags
- a favorite toy

5. A Hearty Fare
Sharing is caring, but be sure to only share dog-safe foods with your pet. Don't give any alcohol, fruit pits, grapes/raisins, onion, or chocolate to your dog and be aware of bones and trash that might be enticing. Make sure your pup has access to fresh water (collapsible/portable water dishes make it even easier).
Our On The Go! Energy Bars are the perfect pairing for a pup picnic! Good luck choosing between Chicken & Mango, Lamb & Apple, Salmon & Carrot! Packaged in convenient, single-serve bars, these treats travel with you and your canine companion for an energy boost wherever the road my take you.
They also support healthy digestion, are made with limited ingredients and are free from corn, wheat, soy or artificial flavors. We take the extra time to air-dry them in batches in order to avoid high-temperature processing. It takes a lot longer but we think it’s worth it.
