Fish Treats for Dogs

Pet owners want their pets to be healthy and happy. You want reliable information so you can make smart decisions on what to feed your pets. We hope this quick guide to fish treats for dogs helps you understand the benefits of single ingredient fish treats and gives you confidence that you are making smart choices with the treats you feed for your pet.

At Plato Pet Treats, we always put ingredients first because your dog’s health comes first.

Single ingredient treats are a great choice for your pet. Single ingredient treats require less processing, which is better for your dog’s health. Single ingredient fish dog treats eliminate the risk of food allergies since you know exactly what the treat contains.

Fish treats are a perfect single ingredient treat that offers amazing benefits for dogs. Fish is high in protein, high in Omega 3 & 6 fatty acids, and supports healthy skin and coat.

Fish treats can be used for dog snacks, for dog training, and for kibble topper.

Freeze Dried Fish for Dogs

Pet owners who want to give their dogs treats with the highest nutritional value and the least amount of processing often opt for freeze-dried fish treats. At Plato Pet Treats, we use a proprietary air-drying process that we prefer over freeze drying for several reasons.

Air-dried products contain more moisture which improves texture, as well as “volatility” which means as the moisture evaporates, or when in contact with the dogs saliva, the aroma of the food is more apparent and palatable for dogs. Most freeze-dried diets recommend re-hydrating the freeze-dried product for this very reason, where air-dried products do not need to be re-hydrated.

Air-drying has also been shown to limit “Advanced Glycation End Products (AGE),” a diverse group of highly oxidant and inflammatory compounds, that can be by-products of high temperatures and long cooking or baking times. Reputable companies and scientists have begun advocating for the benefits of air-drying as a method of preventing toxic AGEs. Air-drying is a really big deal!

Best Fish Treats for Dogs – Our Picks

High quality, limited ingredient fish treats are an excellent choice for dog snacks, training rewards, or kibble topper. Dogs love the naturally “fishy” smell and flavor, and pet owners love knowing the nutritional quality of the treats.

Best Single Ingredient Fish Treat (Chewy and Satisfying) - Cod Fish Skin Dog Treats

Cod fish skin treats offer a natural source of Omega 3 & 6 fatty acids, support skin and coat health, and help fight tartar while your dog enjoys the long-lasting chewing satisfaction. They make great replacements for rawhides and bones. And since they are only one ingredient, you can be sure that these treats are grain-free and contain no artificial flavors, corn, wheat, or soy.

Best Single Ingredient Fish Treat (Quick and Convenient) - Baltic Sprat Dog Treats

Baltic sprat are small wild-caught fish that can be given to your dog whole. These little treats pack a powerful nutritional punch and are extremely convenient because of their size. They can be easily broken into smaller pieces and used for training treats or as kibble topper.

Best Limited Ingredient Fish Dog Treat - Salmon Dog Treats

Salmon dog treats are a fantastic choice for your pet, but there are a few things you will want to avoid on ingredient labels if you want to choose the healthiest limited ingredient treats.

Make sure salmon is the first ingredient and that it does not include the word “meal.” If the salmon ingredient is listed as salmon meal, it means it was processed before being added to the treat and then baked or processed a second time, which makes it difficult to ensure the nutritional quality of the treat.

Look out for starches listed separately, such as potato, sweet potato, and corn, which can be a misleading tactic used to ensure the meat ingredient is listed first even though the starch content is higher. Also look out for lots of grains used as fillers, preservatives, and flavor additives.

Plato Puts Ingredients First

We love our pets and want to provide the best we can for them, and when we bless them in this way, they continue to bless us with a better quality of life and longer lifespan. This is a beautiful thing, and this is what we call the Cycle of Virtue.
